Just a Kiss

I’ve been following Megan Nicole on youtube for a while now, and this is her newest video. I love love love her voice mixed with Boyce Avenue’s voice in this and wanted to share. And I think it’s a great song to begin with!

A Praying Life

I recently finished A Praying Life by Paul Miller, and I was inspired enough to put up a quick post about it. My review of the book in two simple words? Read it. Okay, maybe three simple words: read it, please!

Miller is incredibly authentic and transparent in his own life-long wrestling match with prayer. It was refreshing to read a book on prayer that didn’t leave me feeling guilty for not “praying better.” He is writing to Christians who have heard the sermons, read the passages, been to the Sunday school classes on prayer… essentially those who have been there, gotten the T-shirt… and umm…. still don’t really know how to pray. He shines light on that disconnect, not as a “wise and holy man who has the perfect answer,” but as a humble servant of Christ sharing what the Spirit has taught him over several years of struggle with this very thing.

Oddly enough, many people struggle to learn how to pray because they are focusing on praying, not on God. Making prayer the center is like making conversation the center of family mealtime. In prayer, focusing on the conversation is like trying to drive while looking at the windshield instead of through it. It freezes us, making us unsure of where to go. Conversation is only the vehicle through which we experience one another. Consequently, prayer is not the center of this book. Getting to know a person, God, is the center. (Miller, p.20)

And that’s only in the 2nd chapter! I learned so much from him: my personal weaknesses that have become barriers, practical ways even just to remember to pray, and useful tools to keep from being overwhelmed by the infamous “prayer list.” And most importantly, he pointed me back to Jesus time and time again, reigniting the passion and love I have for Him.

Happy reading!

Grace and Peace,
